Drousiotis’s records submitted to Europol for judicial review

Date:

The investigation will move forward as evidence collected following Makarios Drousiotis’ allegations is to be sent to Europol for judicial review, Justice and Public Order Minister Kostas Fytiris confirmed today.

Cabinet updated on evidence

Speaking after a Cabinet meeting discussing the progress of the case, Mr Fytiris said that all secured evidence would be submitted to Europol, and the results will guide future decisions by the Cabinet under Cyprus’ criminal procedure law.

“The President requested an update to the Cabinet regarding the public complaint by Mr Drousiotis,” Mr Fytiris said, noting that he informed ministers of the current stage of investigations and the evidence available for judicial review.

Independent review possible

The Minister added that, following the Europol analysis, he will provide the Cabinet with further updates. At that stage, a decision will be made on whether an independent investigator should be appointed.

“All procedures will follow legal requirements, and based on the outcomes, the Cabinet will take the necessary decisions,” Mr Fytiris said.

Investigations ongoing

Responding to questions, Mr Fytiris confirmed that the police continue to take statements and gather information, and that the evidence collected so far forms the basis of today’s update.

Regarding claims that witnesses might be threatened, he said anyone facing threats should contact the police. “I do not believe such threats exist. The police will continue their investigations, send the evidence to Europol, and we will await results to provide a further Cabinet update,” he added.
