Increased patrols and inspections
Cyprus police continued intensified patrols and inspections across all districts yesterday and overnight to prevent the use of firecrackers, bonfires (lampratzia), and youth-related offences.
During these operations, police responded to multiple incidents of fire lighting and firecracker use. In several areas, wood intended for bonfires was also seized. Police checked gatherings where firecrackers and bonfires were planned, and in some cases, the Fire Service was called to extinguish open fires.
Incidents in Paphos
In Paphos, around 7:00 p.m., police discovered a fire and found a 13½-year-old minor with other youths, who fled the scene. A knife was found in the minor’s possession. His guardian was called and took him into custody.
Later, around 8:30 p.m., police located another fire in Paphos involving a 17-year-old minor and a 23-year-old. The 23-year-old was arrested for outstanding court fines.

The Cyprus Police maintain increased presence and targeted actions across all districts to prevent dangerous behaviour and protect public safety. Authorities urge the public to act responsibly and cooperate with law enforcement.
