Accident details
A high-speed train driver was killed, and 27 people were injured in northern France on Tuesday when the train collided with a military truck, officials said. The incident occurred in the Pas-de-Calais region at around 7:00 a.m., according to the state railway company SNCF.
Location and disruption
SNCF reported on its X account that the crash happened at a level crossing between the towns of Béthune and Lens. Train services were immediately suspended while emergency teams responded to the scene.
Official response
French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said he was on his way to the accident site, accompanied by SNCF CEO Jean Castex. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the collision, focusing on safety at the level crossing and the involvement of the military vehicle.
