Date:

Urgent session focuses on NPL legislation

The last and extraordinary session of the Cyprus House of Representatives will focus on the management of non-performing loans (NPLs) and property foreclosures. A series of bills and proposals will be voted on, while organisations plan a protest outside the parliamentary building.

Parliamentary agenda

The plenary convenes at 10:00 a.m. on Holy Monday, with two government bills and 19 private members’ proposals on the agenda. These include initiatives by Marinos Sizopoulos and Ilias Myrianthous on behalf of EDEK, proposals from AKEL, ELAM, the Movement of Ecologists, independent MP Alexandra Attalidou, and several cross-party co-signed proposals.

Protests scheduled outside Parliament

At 10:30 a.m., several organisations, including the Anti-Foreclosure Movement and the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation, will hold a protest outside the House. Other groups, such as PEO, have expressed support. Demonstrators are calling for the end of perceived injustices against borrowers facing foreclosures.
