The Palestinian Authority today welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and the Lebanese Shia movement Hezbollah, expressing hope that it “will contribute to ending violence and instability” across the region.
The West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967 and where the Palestinian Authority holds limited power, has witnessed a surge in violence since the outbreak of war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip on 7 October 2023, which quickly escalated to Lebanon.
Turkey has declared its readiness to assist in any way possible to establish a lasting ceasefire in Gaza. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed satisfaction with the ceasefire agreement now in effect in Lebanon.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Joe Biden stated that the U.S. would again push for a ceasefire in Gaza “in cooperation with Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel, and others.”
Qatar’s statement
Qatar welcomed the ceasefire in Lebanon, expressing hope for a “similar agreement” to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
“Qatar welcomes the ceasefire reached in Lebanon and hopes for a similar agreement to bring an end to the ongoing war in Gaza and the Israeli attacks in the occupied West Bank,” Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
