Russia launches massive drone attack on Ukraine amid stalled talks

Hundreds of Russian drones strike Ukraine

Russian forces launched hundreds of drones across Ukraine on Wednesday, killing at least five people and damaging critical infrastructure, Ukrainian officials reported. The attacks followed the Kremlin’s rejection of a Ukrainian proposal for a temporary Easter ceasefire.

Damage in Lutsk and Cherkasy

A postal terminal and a food distribution site in Lutsk, near the Polish border, were damaged, with thick smoke rising from a warehouse. Nova Poshta, Ukraine’s main postal service, published images of the destruction. In the central Cherkasy region, a Russian drone strike killed four people, while an earlier attack in Kherson killed a woman and injured two others.

Diplomatic efforts face hurdles

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he held a “positive” call with US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to revive the peace process. NATO chief Mark Rutte and US Senator Lindsey Graham also participated. Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is doing everything possible to support diplomatic efforts, even as progress stalls partly due to the US focus shifting to the Iran war.

Frontline developments

Russia claimed to have captured two villages in eastern Ukraine and asserted full control over the Luhansk region, although these claims could not be independently verified. Zelensky described the front-line situation as “quite tense,” with continued drone attacks and ground pressure escalating risks for civilians.
