March rainfall hits 182% of normal

Heavy precipitation recorded across key areas

Preliminary data from the Department of Meteorology show that rainfall in the free areas of Cyprus for March has reached 182% of the normal amount, measured from 1 March until 9:00 on 30 March.

Total rainfall and regional highlights

The total average rainfall during this period was 112.5 mm, compared with the typical monthly average of 61.9 mm. The areas receiving the most rainfall were Stavros Psokas, Pano Panagia, Platania, and Saittas.

Stavros Psokas recorded 253 mm (217% of normal), Pano Panagia 204.5 mm (200% of normal), Platania 201.5 mm (179% of normal), Saittas 179.5 mm (215% of normal), and Prodromos 176.7 mm (147% of normal). These figures indicate a significantly wetter March than usual across the island.

Meteorologists continue monitoring conditions, noting that such rainfall can impact agriculture, water resources, and local infrastructure.
