Rising LPG costs
Households and businesses using LPG for cooking or heating face a new wave of price increases. From today, 10kg LPG cylinders are selling for €25, up €4.50–5 compared to yesterday, including the return of empty cylinders.
High weekend demand
The significant price hike of around 25% was anticipated over the weekend, prompting a rush in supermarkets across Cyprus as consumers returned empty cylinders to purchase LPG before the increases took effect.
Price trends
Until yesterday, the average price of a 10kg LPG cylinder was slightly under €20. According to the Consumer Protection Price Observatory of the Ministry of Energy, the February average was €18.74, compared to €18.13 in January and €17.54 last year.
Market fluctuations
LPG prices remain highly volatile, with the most expensive cylinder last month reaching €24.20 and the cheapest at €15.71, based on data from 400 retail stores nationwide. The weighted average for February stood at €18.74.
Government response
The recent inflationary pressures, driven by the Middle East crisis, will be discussed by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday. Measures to mitigate the impact on households and businesses are not ruled out.
