Israel to intensify ground and air strikes on Hezbollah

Date:

Israel has approved plans to expand ground and air attacks against Hezbollah, amid rising fears in Lebanon of a large-scale ground invasion. The military says the operation aims to protect northern Israeli communities from Hezbollah attacks.

Civilian impact in Lebanon

Since the escalation began, over 1,000 people have been killed in Lebanon, including at least 118 children and 40 health workers, according to the Lebanese health ministry. More than a million people have been displaced, sparking concerns of a major humanitarian crisis.

Strategic strikes and border operations

Israeli forces have targeted crossings over the Litani River used by Hezbollah for reinforcements, damaging the Qasmiye bridge near Tyre. Officials also plan to demolish homes in border villages, following tactics previously used in Gaza to create security zones.

Hezbollah and regional tensions

The escalation follows rocket attacks by Hezbollah in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and ongoing Israeli strikes in Lebanon. President Joseph Aoun warned that the attacks could be a “prelude to a ground invasion” and a form of “collective punishment against civilians.”
