Border officials intercept 200 litres

Officials from the Customs Department seized a significant quantity of illegal fuel on Thursday at the Agios Dometios checkpoint during routine inspections.

An 80-year-old man was stopped while driving a vehicle, and authorities discovered ten 20-litre plastic containers in the storage area at the back, holding a total of 200 litres of fuel.

Customs authorities reported that 160 litres were diesel and 40 litres were petrol, exceeding legal limits for private transport.

Driver released after settlement

The driver was initially arrested for summary offences, and the fuel containers along with the vehicle used for transport were confiscated.

However, the man was later released after an out-of-court settlement, paying €1,000 to resolve the case.
