Preliminary objections in Thanasis Nikolaou case decided on April 3

Date:

Arguments on preliminary objections concluded

On Thursday, the court concluded arguments on the preliminary objections in the private prosecution filed by the family of Thanasis Nikolaou, involving five defendants. The court will deliver its decision on April 3.

Defence and family statements

Following the defence lawyers’ presentations, former Lania police station head Christakis Kapiliotis spoke on his own behalf without legal counsel.

Christos Klirides, representing the Nikolaou family, then addressed the court, countering the defendants’ preliminary objections.

Objections under review

The preliminary objections relate to the right to a fair trial, the non-disclosure of witness material, and the filing of the indictment by Savas Matsa, who served as an independent criminal investigator in the Nikolaou case. Matsa, having withdrawn as family counsel, is expected to testify as a witness.

The court’s upcoming ruling on April 3 will determine the validity of these objections and shape the next stage of proceedings.
