Tehran vows revenge after Larijani killing

The Iran war continued to rage for a 19th consecutive day, with both sides exchanging attacks, reporting casualties and launching missile and drone strikes.

Iran is expected to hold the funeral later today for Ali Larijani, the powerful head of the Islamic Republic’s Supreme National Security Council, who was killed on Tuesday amid ongoing bombardments by Israel and the United States. Iran’s army chief has vowed that the country’s forces will “avenge” his death.

Iran confirms death of senior security figure

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council confirmed the death of its chief, a key figure within the country’s political and security establishment. Just days earlier, Larijani had appeared publicly in Tehran, participating in demonstrations despite ongoing airstrikes.

The Revolutionary Guards stated that overnight attacks were carried out in retaliation for his killing. According to reports, Iranian strikes involving cluster bombs killed an elderly couple and injured two others.

Israel and US operations widen pressure

Israel has concentrated its military operations both domestically and in Lebanon, while the United States is focusing on ensuring the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, Donald Trump criticised US allies within NATO and threatened a potential withdrawal from the alliance, stating that “we do not need and do not want anyone.”

The Iran-Israel war remains highly volatile, with tensions escalating further following Larijani’s death and continued military activity across the region.
