Guterres Brussels meeting with EU and Christodoulides

Date:

High-level discussions with EU leadership

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will travel to Brussels on Thursday to take part in an informal discussion, meeting with members of the European Council.

Beyond the main session, Guterres is scheduled to hold separate bilateral meetings with key EU figures. These include European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.

Focus on global developments and multilateralism

The Guterres Brussels meeting agenda is expected to cover a broad range of international and global developments. Discussions will also focus on the relationship between the United Nations and the European Union, as well as the wider issue of multilateral cooperation.

These talks come at a time of increasing geopolitical complexity, with both organisations seeking to strengthen coordination on global challenges.

Meeting with Christodoulides

During his stay in Brussels, the UN chief will also meet Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Maxime Prévot.

Importantly, Guterres will hold a meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. The Guterres Brussels meeting with Christodoulides is expected to touch on regional developments and issues of mutual interest, including ongoing diplomatic efforts related to Cyprus.
