Students return to classrooms

Students in Akrotiri schools returned to their classrooms on Monday following the lifting of the evacuation order. A preparedness exercise is scheduled for Wednesday at the primary school.

Deputy Mayor of Akrotiri, Giorgos Konstantinou, told CNA that daily routines have resumed and students are back in both the primary school and kindergarten.

Safety inspections conducted

Education Minister Athina Michaeilidou visited the community last Saturday. Together with relevant officials, she provided instructions for safety checks of school facilities, focusing on structural integrity and earthquake resilience.

Parents’ Association President, Polina Argyrou, confirmed that all students have returned safely after temporary relocation to the B’ Primary School of Kolossi, with no issues reported.

Preparedness exercise planned

A readiness drill will be conducted on Wednesday at the Akrotiri Primary School for students and teachers, designed to familiarise them with emergency procedures, including responding when sirens sound.

Two classrooms have been identified as potential gathering points and temporary shelters, to be used if necessary during emergencies, Argyrou added.
