Explosions rock Kyiv in rare daytime air attack

Date:

Russian missile and drone barrage

Explosions were reported over Ukraine’s capital on Monday, as French news agency journalists observed air defence systems intercepting a series of Russian missile attacks. Officials described the strike as a rare daytime assault on Kyiv.

Russian forces have intensified drone and long-range missile attacks in recent months, mainly targeting energy infrastructure across Ukraine.

Civilian impact and safety measures

Debris from a drone fell in central Kyiv, but no fires or casualties were reported. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed on social media that the hostile attack continues, urging residents to remain vigilant. Witnesses saw flashes and smoke clouds while citizens sought shelter during peak hours.

Strategic context

The attacks come amid US-led efforts to bring Kyiv and Moscow to the negotiating table, which have reportedly been disrupted by the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran. The Ukrainian Air Force warned of a “high-speed target” approaching Kyiv from the northern region bordering Russia.
