Israel-Lebanon conflict escalates with ground operations

Date:

Limited ground operations against Hezbollah

Israel announced on Monday that it has launched limited ground operations targeting Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army described the moves as part of broader defensive efforts to establish and strengthen advanced positions.

These developments echo similar military actions in 2024, when Israel confronted Hezbollah in Lebanon, and in 2023, when ground strikes targeted Gaza in response to Hamas attacks.

Attacks on Beirut suburbs

The announcement follows Israeli airstrikes on southern Beirut suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold home to hundreds of thousands of residents. The strikes are part of ongoing military operations in the region, which have increasingly involved multiple nations.

Regional escalation

Iran has responded to Israeli and US operations with attacks on at least 10 countries hosting American forces. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards reported firing approximately 700 missiles and 3,600 drones at US and Israeli targets.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged other nations to avoid actions that could escalate the conflict and called on neighboring countries to expel foreign attackers.

Impact on civilian infrastructure

Dubai International Airport, usually one of the busiest globally, gradually resumed operations on Monday after a drone attack caused a fuel tank fire. In addition, Saudi Arabia intercepted over 60 drones since midnight, while missile strikes at Baghdad airport injured five people near a US diplomatic facility.

The ongoing Israel-Lebanon conflict and regional responses continue to heighten tensions across the Middle East, raising concerns over civilian safety and international security.
