Third ballistic missile neutralised, Ankara says
Turkey’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that a third ballistic missile launched from Iran entered Turkish airspace but was intercepted by NATO air defence systems deployed in the eastern Mediterranean. Ankara said all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard national security as tensions in the region continue to rise.
Statement from defence ministry
In a written statement, the ministry said that “a ballistic munition launched from Iran and entering Turkish airspace was neutralised by NATO air and missile defence elements deployed in the eastern Mediterranean.”
Turkish authorities stressed that the country is responding decisively to any threat against its territory or airspace and is closely monitoring developments in the region.
Contacts with Iran under way
According to the statement, consultations with Iran are ongoing to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Officials noted that national security remains a priority and that all developments are being carefully evaluated.
The ministry did not provide further details about the intended target of the missile or the exact location where the interception took place.
