Drone strike hits Sohar, raising regional security concerns
Two foreign nationals were killed in Oman after drones struck the al-Awahi Industrial Area in the Sohar province on Friday, according to Oman’s state news agency. Additional injuries were reported, while a second drone fell in an open area with no casualties. Authorities are investigating the incident.
Oman’s oil and port operations
State officials confirmed there was no disruption to the country’s oil supply or petroleum products. Vanguard Tech, a private maritime security company, reported temporary suspension of operations at Salalah port’s southern section after an earlier drone strike on fuel tanks. Tehran has denied involvement in the Salalah attack.
Drone attacks across the Gulf
In Saudi Arabia, forces intercepted a drone targeting Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, home to foreign embassies. Additional drones were downed in central and eastern regions, al-Kharj governorate, and west of Riyadh, with a total of 14 to 22 drones reportedly intercepted in recent waves.
In the United Arab Emirates, debris from a downed drone fell on a building in Dubai city centre, causing no injuries.
Escalating Gulf conflict
The drone attacks come amid heightened tensions following US-Israel strikes on Iran on February 28, which killed approximately 1,300 people and injured more than 10,000. Tehran has since launched retaliatory strikes on Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US forces. Lebanon has also suffered heavy losses under continued Israeli bombardment.
