The case of the fatal road collision that occurred last July in Aglantzia, which claimed the life of 20-year-old Kyriakos Antoniou from Agios Dometios, is now heading to court.
According to the Police, the Legal Service has instructed authorities to proceed with criminal prosecution against the driver involved in the accident, relating both to the death of the 20-year-old and to traffic offences that emerged from the fatal collision.
The case file had been sent to the Legal Service last month, along with an expert report that was added to the investigation.
It is recalled that Kyriakos Antoniou was driving his vehicle along Larnakos Avenue, travelling from the University of Cyprus roundabout towards Nicosia. At the traffic lights on Larnakos Avenue, the 20-year-old attempted to make a right turn.
According to the evidence under investigation, at that moment a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man, with a 23-year-old passenger, was approaching from the opposite direction and collided violently with Antoniou’s vehicle.
Following the severe impact, the victim’s car was crushed into a mangled mass of metal and also crashed into the traffic lights.
According to sources, a reconstruction of the crash carried out at the scene indicated that the driver of the other vehicle was travelling at excessive speed well above the permitted limit.
