UK air-defence intercepted drones heading to Jordan and Bahrain

Date:

UK air-defence operations saw Royal Air Force Typhoon jets neutralise an unmanned aerial system posing a threat to Jordan, while intercepting another drone heading towards Bahrain.

The operations mark a defensive response to rising tensions in the Gulf region, aimed at protecting allies and maintaining regional stability.

Support for Gulf allies

The UK has begun regular defensive air sorties to support the United Arab Emirates and other partners, enhancing security across the Gulf.

Additional air operations specialists have been deployed to the region to provide a complete picture of aerial activity and assist partners in airspace management.

Reinforcements in Cyprus

Further Wildcat helicopters have arrived at British bases in Cyprus to support defensive operations.

A Merlin helicopter is already deployed in the theatre, boosting capabilities for detecting and countering aerial threats.

Strengthening regional security

These measures form part of broader UK efforts to reinforce the air-defence of allies and contribute to stability in a period of heightened tensions and threats from unmanned aerial systems.

The deployments demonstrate the UK’s commitment to protecting partner nations while maintaining readiness for potential escalations in the region.
