Putin praises M. Khamenei, pledges Moscow’s full support for Tehran

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on his election as the new Supreme Leader of Iran.

Continuity and leadership

Putin expressed confidence that Mojtaba Khamenei would continue the work of his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a strike on the first day of the war “with honour,” and would unite the Iranian people “in the face of serious trials.”

Russian backing

The Russian president reaffirmed that Moscow will continue to support Tehran, stating his desire to “confirm unwavering support for Tehran and solidarity with our Iranian friends.” He emphasised that “Russia has been and will remain a reliable partner” to Iran.
