Family offers $1m reward for missing Nancy Guthrie

Date:

US news anchor Savannah Guthrie announced that her family is offering a $1 million reward for information leading to the safe return of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, who went missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home. The appeal comes on day 24 of the search.

Fighting back tears in an Instagram video, Savannah Guthrie said the family continues to hope for a miracle while acknowledging that Nancy may have already passed away. The family is also donating $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

FBI involvement and tips

The FBI’s Phoenix office is urging anyone with firsthand knowledge of Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts to contact the tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Previously, the reward for information stood at $200,000, split between the FBI and Tucson Crime Stoppers.

Circumstances of the disappearance

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on 1 February 2026 after failing to attend church services. Authorities suspect she was taken from her home against her will, possibly during the night, and have described the case as a potential kidnapping or abduction.

Nancy Guthrie has mobility issues, a pacemaker, and requires daily heart medication, raising concerns for her well-being.

Investigators have released images of the prime suspect, captured on her Nest doorbell camera, who had been at her home previously. Authorities have received nearly 40,000 tips from the public.

Ransom demands and leads

  • Purported ransom notes requesting $6 million in cryptocurrency have been sent to media outlets
  • At least one note was fake, linked to a 42-year-old man from California who has been charged
  • DNA from a glove near her home, similar to one worn by the suspect, yielded no matches in the FBI database

All family members have been ruled out as suspects, with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos emphasising that suggesting otherwise is “cruel.”

The high-profile case has drawn massive media attention to Tucson, turning the quiet city into a hub for reporters and amateur sleuths.
