Cyprus weather forecast: cold air moves in

Date:

Unstable conditions with possible mountain showers

The Cyprus forecast signals a brief spell of instability across the island, with a cold air mass expected to affect the region from Thursday.

Today, conditions will be mostly clear. However, during the afternoon, locally increased cloud cover may develop, bringing a slight chance of isolated showers, mainly over mountainous areas.

Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to northwest, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening later along the southern coast to strong, up to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slight to locally rough, gradually becoming rough in some areas.

Temperatures will rise to around 19°C inland and along the coasts, and to 9°C in the higher mountainous regions.

Midweek rain and colder air

On Tuesday night, the weather will remain mostly clear, although conditions in the west will gradually turn partly cloudy. Winds will continue mainly from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with the sea remaining rough.

On Wednesday, the Cyprus weather update indicates periods of mainly cloudy skies with local showers, lasting until the early hours of Thursday, particularly across the western half of the island.

For the remainder of Thursday and into Friday, locally increased cloud cover may bring isolated showers, mainly over the mountains and inland areas. On the highest peaks of the Troodos mountains, sleet or snowfall is possible.

Noticeable temperature drop from Thursday

Temperatures on Wednesday will remain at similar levels. However, on Thursday a noticeable drop is expected, with no significant change on Friday. Values will fall below average climatic levels for the season as the cold air mass settles over the island.
