Five individuals, aged 27 to 43, have been referred for trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca on 2 April over a high-value home robbery that took place in February 2024.
Background of the robbery
The incident occurred in the early hours of 19 February 2024 in the Faneromeni area of Larnaca. According to police reports, four masked intruders wearing gloves entered the residence of a 58-year-old businesswoman. Using garden scissors to threaten the victims, they confined the homeowner and two domestic helpers in a first-floor bedroom.
The suspects stole mobile phones and jewellery from the victims and forced the 58-year-old to open a safe, from which they took watches, gold items, and cash totalling €188,000.
Closed-circuit television footage later revealed that five individuals were involved, using a stolen vehicle from Limassol, which was subsequently found abandoned in the Geramasogeia riverbed.
International links and arrests
A few days after the robbery, one of the stolen watches appeared on a social media platform and was traced to a jewellery store in Lebanon. The store owner confirmed that the watch had been offered by individuals who had contacted him from Cyprus.
- On 14 March 2024, a 41-year-old suspect was arrested for allegedly contacting the Lebanese store.
- A 30-year-old was arrested shortly after, admitting to selling two stolen rings in Nicosia.
The 41-year-old, previously convicted for the 2024 murder of Demetris Andronikos (known as “Demetroui”), voluntarily implicated the other three convicted individuals in his testimony. A 43-year-old was arrested on 11 February 2026, while the 27-year-old suspect remains at large.
Charges
The five suspects face charges of:
- Conspiracy to commit a felony
- Robbery
- Night-time burglary
- Theft
The 43-year-old lodged an objection to his detention, with the court reserving its decision for today. Separately, a case has been filed against the 30-year-old for the sale of stolen jewellery.
Previous convictions
It is notable that four of the suspects have already been sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Demetris Andronikos, who died on 28 May 2024 following gunshot wounds received on 23 April 2024 along the Palechori–Anthoupoli road.
The upcoming trial in Larnaca will determine their criminal responsibility for the 2024 home robbery, including the handling of stolen goods with links abroad.
