Cypriot skier finishes 34th at Milano–Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games

Date:

Cypriot skier Yiannos Kouyoumdjian completed the Technical Downhill (Slalom) at the Milano–Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, finishing 34th overall at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio.

Strong performance in challenging conditions

The Cyprus Olympic Committee reported that Kouyoumdjian recorded a total time of 2:19.46. Of 96 athletes who started, only 39 completed both runs, highlighting the difficulty of the course and the importance of finishing.

In the first run, Kouyoumdjian posted a time of 1:10.88. The Olympic Committee noted that snowfall created challenging conditions, causing more than half of the participants to fail to finish.

Composure secures final ranking

During the second and decisive run, under improved weather conditions, Kouyoumdjian demonstrated composure and competitive maturity, successfully managing the track’s demands to secure his final 34th-place ranking.

Reflecting on his performance, the 29-year-old said: “It was a very difficult race. Especially in the first run there was a lot of snowfall. Fortunately, I managed to finish with a stable run. The organisation was excellent and a great experience for me.”

Continuing Cyprus’ Olympic presence

The Cyprus Olympic Committee described Kouyoumdjian’s participation as a positive conclusion to his second consecutive Olympic Games, confirming his steady development and continued representation of Cyprus on the international ski scene.

Alpine Skiing action for Cyprus continues on February 18 with the participation of Andrea Loizidou in the Technical Downhill (Slalom) in Cortina.
