58-year-old hit in motorway while changing tyre, driver in court

A 58-year-old man lost his life on Friday evening after being struck by a passing vehicle while changing a tyre on the Larnaca motorway. The incident occurred near the first exit towards Xylofagou. The victim is 58-year-old Manolis Konstantinou from Deryneia.

Details of the accident

According to the British Bases Police, the crash happened around 21:45 while the victim had parked in the emergency lane. The motorway was temporarily closed, with traffic diverted until it reopened at 01:15 am.

The driver involved was tested for alcohol and drugs, with results returning negative. The driver of the second vehicle involved has been arrested, and police investigations are ongoing.

A post-mortem was scheduled for Saturday afternoon to determine the official cause of death. The driver involved was tested for alcohol and drugs, with results returning negative.

Despite negative test results, the driver remains in custody and is expected to appear in court. Police continue their full investigation into the circumstances of the fatal crash.
