Torture video: Claim of vehicle transfer under duress

Date:

Two men, aged 48 and 27, appeared before the Larnaca District Court on Sunday in connection with the torture case in Pyla. They face 14 charges related to videos allegedly showing the abuse of individuals in an office. The court approved police requests to extend their detention for five more days.

Background of the case

The 48-year-old was previously arrested on 6 February as a suspect in a separate incident involving a clash and firearm discharge in Larnaca on 17 January. Both men are now under investigation for multiple serious offences dating back to July 2025.

Charges under investigation

The 14 charges include conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour, illegal possession and transport of a Category B firearm, kidnapping or deprivation of liberty to cause serious harm, acts intended to cause serious bodily injury, aggravated bodily harm, assaults causing actual bodily harm, common assault, carrying a knife, possession of an offensive weapon, and armed intimidation.

Victims and evidence

Police have obtained statements from the suspects and from several victims, with six victims identified so far. Investigators are examining whether some victims transferred vehicles under duress, while medical examinations have confirmed injuries consistent with the abuse. Family members of victims have also provided testimony.

Video recordings are being transcribed with the help of an interpreter, and forensic analysis is ongoing. CCTV footage from Pyla is under review, and further evidence is being collected from suspects’ homes, vehicles, and mobile phones.

Ongoing investigations

Authorities plan to take approximately 15 additional statements, conduct identification parades for the suspects, and locate a further individual for whom an arrest warrant has been issued. Other accomplices seen in the videos remain unidentified, and weapons depicted in the videos are being sought.

Biometric samples from both suspects will undergo forensic analysis to compare with evidence collected at the scene. Investigations continue across hospitals and private clinics to verify victims’ medical treatment. Police in Larnaca CID (TAE) remain actively pursuing all leads.
