Young Cypriots top Europe average in AI usage

Date:

Eurostat data from 2025 shows young Cypriots are adopting artificial intelligence (AI) tools at far higher rates than their European peers. Some 76.5% of Cypriots aged 16-24 reported using AI, compared with the EU average of 63.8%.

Europe-wide AI adoption

Greece recorded the highest usage among young people at 83.5%, followed by Estonia (82.8%) and Czechia (78.5%). At the lower end, Romania (44.1%), Italy (47.2%) and Poland (49.3%) reported the smallest share of young AI users.

Among Cypriots aged 16-24 who do not use AI tools, 38% cited a lack of necessity, 8% were unaware of their existence, and 3% lacked knowledge on usage. Privacy and security concerns accounted for just 1% of non-users.

Usage gap between generations

The data highlights a significant generational divide. Only 32.7% of the general population aged 16-74 in Cyprus use AI tools, meaning young adults adopt AI at more than double the rate of older groups.

AI in studies and daily life

Across the EU, 39.3% of young people use AI for study purposes, versus 9.4% of the general population. A further 44.2% of youth employ AI for private tasks including information gathering, entertainment and personal organisation.

Recent trends show students increasingly rely on AI not just as a supplementary tool, but as a primary method to complete assignments, reports and even dissertations, signalling a shift in how learning and research are conducted in higher education.
