Cyprus is among the 82 states of the 148 founding members of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, which was announced at the G20 Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Republic of Cyprus, as a member state of the European Union, which is also the largest donor of Development and Humanitarian Aid worldwide, participates in the Alliance in order to contribute, within its capabilities, to the Alliance’s collective effort to address the phenomena of hunger and poverty worldwide, with a view to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The recent re-establishment of “CyprusAid” under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the redefinition of its objectives, took place in the context of strengthening efforts to implement the objectives and obligations of the Republic of Cyprus in the field of Development and Humanitarian Aid, internationally, the press release concluded.
