Authorities examine two main possibilities
Authorities are investigating the disappearance of a quantity of missing explosives from the National Guard, with theft emerging as one of the main scenarios under review.
According to information available so far, investigators are focusing on two possibilities. Either individuals stole the explosives with the intention of using them, or scrap metal collectors removed them while searching firing ranges for metal they could later sell.
Scrap metal collectors among scenarios
If scrap metal collectors took the explosives without criminal intent, this would indicate that the explosives remained in place for several hours without the level of supervision required.
Under this scenario, the perpetrators did not remove the two explosive devices in order to detonate them, but to sell them as scrap. Even so, authorities cannot rule out the possibility that, once they realised what they had taken, they attempted to sell the explosives to anyone interested.
Sealed devices pose major danger
Investigators confirmed that the two devices were intact and sealed, each containing an equal quantity of explosives.
Based on reporting, it would prove extremely difficult for someone without specialist bomb disposal knowledge to open the devices, extract the explosive material, and divide it into smaller charges for multiple attacks.
However, using each device as it is, with approximately seven kilograms of explosives, could cause a devastating blast. The danger would increase dramatically if both devices were used simultaneously against the same target.
Serious national security concern
Authorities describe the case as extremely serious, with several aspects still unclear. The disappearance of the explosives directly concerns national security and continues to prompt intensive investigation.
