Cyprus Customs seize nearly 25,000 counterfeit condoms

Date:

Initial operation uncovers thousands of items

Cyprus Customs confiscated nearly 25,000 counterfeit condoms during two separate operations conducted on 23 and 30 January in the Famagusta district.

Following a complaint to the competent Medical Devices Authority regarding condoms suspected of infringing the intellectual property rights of a well-known brand, Customs carried out a joint operation at a shop and a warehouse in Famagusta.

Authorities seized 5,040 condoms and 418 lubricants during the first inspection. Photographs and information were forwarded to the brand’s legal representatives to determine whether the seized goods violated intellectual property rights.

Follow-up operation and admission

A second inspection of the same warehouse on 30 January led to the seizure of 19,674 additional condoms of the same brand.

The company owner admitted the products were counterfeit and surrendered them for destruction.

The case remains under investigation by Larnaca Customs.
