Stavros Demosthenous murder trial set for March 24

Date:

Today, six suspects in the Stavros Demosthenous murder case appeared before the Limassol Criminal Court as part of a joint indictment process. The trial will begin on 24 March.

The court brought the six defendants under tight security. Four face a separate indictment from the two 28-year-olds arrested in Thessaloniki by Greek authorities under a European arrest warrant.

Legal procedures and joint indictment

The court temporarily suspended both cases and formally paused the criminal prosecution. The District Court will register a joint indictment for all six defendants. The Criminal Court will hear the trial on 24 March.

Detention and bail requests

The prosecution asked the court to keep five of the six defendants in custody until the trial. The defence lawyers raised no objection.

The third defendant, aged 51, had previously been released under restrictive conditions but failed to meet them. His lawyer asked the court to allow a €50,000 cash bail instead of the original €10,000 personal guarantee and €100,000 guarantor. The court will decide on this request around 13:30.
