Six face trial today for Stavros Demosthenous murder

Date:

Today, six individuals appear at the Limassol Assize Court charged with the premeditated murder of 49-year-old Stavros Demosthenous, killed on 17 October 2025 in the Agios Athanasios area. The suspects include two 30-year-olds, a 31-year-old, a 51-year-old, and two 28-year-olds.

Charges against the accused

Authorities charge the suspects with premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to commit murder, vehicle arson, illegal possession, transfer and use of firearms, illegal possession, transfer and use of explosives, and vehicle theft.

Roles in the crime

Police say one 30-year-old bought the motorcycle used in the perpetrators’ escape after they set fire to the van. Another 30-year-old, already serving time for a different offence, gave instructions from Central Prisons about buying the motorcycle. Investigators also linked the 51-year-old to the case through DNA found in a stolen vehicle used to track the victim.

Authorities say the 31-year-old drove the van from which the shots were fired. He initially faced charges for aiding one of the 28-year-olds in fleeing through the occupied areas. Later, police arrested him again for ordering fake plates for the stolen van. DNA traces linked him to a hat dropped by one of the 28-year-olds during their escape on the motorcycle.

Police arrested the two 28-year-old cousins in Thessaloniki, Greece, under a European arrest warrant. Investigators allege one acted as the gunman while the other drove the SUV that helped the suspects flee after abandoning the motorcycle.

Authorities are transporting all six suspects to the Limassol District Court under strict security measures.
