Suspect brought under tight security

The 58-year-old suspect in the premeditated murder of 26-year-old Alexandros Antoniou appears today at the Paphos Assize Court under heightened security measures.

Authorities transferred the suspect from the Central Prisons, following an order from the Paphos District Court to keep him in custody until the trial begins. The hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on 29 January 2026 before the Permanent Assize Court of Paphos.

Seriousness of the charge

The court highlighted that premeditated murder ranks among the most serious offences in the criminal code, as it involves the taking of human life, the highest value in society. The court also noted that releasing the suspect could risk his failure to appear for trial.

The murder of Alexandros Antoniou took place on the afternoon of 19 November in the area of Konia, Paphos.
