The Paphos Metropolis confirmed that the police will not be called and that the former Bishop of Paphos, Tychikos, will not face eviction, according to official sources.
Tychikos disputes Archbishop’s order
The clarification follows a letter Tychikos sent to the Archbishop of Cyprus, in which he stated that the Archbishop’s announced plan to involve the police to open the apartment and office he uses, and to inventory its contents, would constitute an “arbitrary act” if carried out. He emphasised that such an action would be unlawful without a court order or judicial decree.
Clarifying residence and office use
In his letter, former Bishop Tychikos noted that the keys to the upper-floor room and office referenced by the Archbishop – spaces he does not use – remain on the doors, and he does not keep any personal belongings there. Since May 2025, he has resided in an external room, which serves as his sole living space.
He also highlighted that upon his enthronement, he chose to use two spaces as his private residence and personal office, not as described in the Archbishop’s letter. Additionally, he noted that the Metropolis already contains an office on the ground floor, which the Archbishop uses during his visits to Paphos.
Protecting church institutions
Tychikos further stated that he reserves all legal rights concerning the contents of the Archbishop’s letter, “to protect church institutions from untimely and inappropriate actions that fall outside your authority and serve other purposes.”

In response to your letter of 28 January, which was sent to me via the Metropolis accountant through Viber, I provide the following. Since my enthronement, I have chosen to use two spaces as my residence and personal office, not as described in your letter. There exists a Metropolis office on the ground floor, which you already use during your visits. When I assumed administration of the Metropolis, no inventory of Metropolis property was conducted.
Your announced plan, if executed, would constitute an arbitrary act on your part, as well as by the police if they comply, because it cannot be implemented without a court order or decree. To protect church institutions from untimely and inappropriate actions beyond your authority and serving other purposes, I reserve all legal rights concerning your letter. I also note that the keys to the upper-floor room and office you referenced, which I do not use, remain on the doors and contain no personal items.
I reside in an external room facing the Metropolis garden, which has been my sole living space since May 2025.
