Cyprus Church orders former Tychikos to vacate office

Archbishop issues sharp warning

The Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus intervened in the dispute over the use of the Metropolitan residence and office in Paphos by former Metropolitan Tychikos. The intervention comes in a formal letter from Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus, dated 28 January 2026.

Dispute over keys and premises

The letter addresses former Metropolitan Tychikos personally. Archbishop Georgios directly challenges a public statement by the former Metropolitan’s legal advisor. The advisor claimed in the media that Tychikos had already returned the residence, office, and keys to the Paphos Metropolis.

The Archdiocese said this presentation “does not reflect the truth.”

Deadline to vacate

According to the letter, Tychikos must vacate the residence and office by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, 29 January 2026.

The letter also contains a clear warning: if the former Metropolitan does not comply, authorities will open the residence and office at 12:00 p.m. the same day. Police will be present to record all items inside the premises.

Opportunity to collect personal belongings

The letter allows Tychikos to attend the process. He can collect any personal items during the official procedure.

The Archdiocese stressed that the approach maintains strictness while ensuring a formal and institutional handling of the issue.
