New signs coming to highways and cities
Cyprus will install electronic road signs to inform drivers about road conditions, weather, roadworks, and traffic accidents, Executive Engineer and Transport Specialist Kleopatra Phedonos said on “Mesimeri kai Kati“.
Real-time updates for safer driving
Phedonos explained that the electronic road signs will deliver information in real time, following European standards. “Drivers will get immediate updates on road conditions,” she said, noting the system aims to improve traffic flow and safety.
Project ready to go live
Phedonos said the signs need full power from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). Authorities completed all necessary checks, and officials expect the signs to start operating within the coming months.
Coordination with authorities
She added that teams will create predefined messaging scenarios. Police and the Public Works Department will send the relevant messages to the electronic signs as needed.
Installation plan
Officials will place 20 large signs along highways and another 20 on main urban roads across the island.
