Phedonos: I welcome the probe; then it will be my turn to speak

Date:

Paphos Mayor Phedon Phedonos has denied recent assault allegations. He called the claims false and politically motivated. He welcomed a police probe to clear his name.

Political and criminal interests behind claims

Phedonos said a “domestic alliance of political and economic interests and organised crime” is trying to neutralise its opponents. He claimed the campaign targets him and his family, using allegations that have circulated for nearly a decade.

Welcoming the investigation

Phedonos said he learned through media reports that police launched a probe following claims from a woman reportedly living in Russia – referring to Annie Alexui. He firmly denied all allegations about him and his wife.

“Nothing that is being said about me or my wife is true,” he said. He added that they have “a wonderful family with two children who understand the situation.”

Phedonos said he welcomes the probe and will speak further once it concludes.

Accusations of corruption and crime

Phedonos accused networks of corruption, organised crime, and illicit political financing of harming Cyprus’s progress. He described these activities as “unthinkable and dangerous” for society. He said the power structures behind them are weakening.

He linked the claims to his political presence and previous complaints, saying these have unsettled powerful interests.

Determined to continue

Despite personal and family costs, Phedonos said he will continue his work for transparency and accountability.

“Citizens know who I am, what I say, and what I do. I trust them,” he said. He added that he will remain active in politics “until the end,” despite attempts to remove him.
