Cyprus dam water levels rise after rainfall

Date:

Inflows increase over three-day period

Cyprus dam water levels recorded a notable increase over the past three days, following recent rainfall across the island.

According to data published by Kitasweather, total water inflows into dams over the last three-day period reached 2.546 million cubic metres (MCM). Since 1 October, cumulative inflows have amounted to 11.268 MCM.

As a result, overall Cyprus dam water levels rose to 11.8% on Monday, 26 January 2026, compared with 11.0% recorded on Friday morning, 23 January 2026. On the corresponding date last year, reservoir levels stood significantly higher at 26.1%.

Rainfall improves inflows but deficit remains

According to the update, average rainfall of around 50 millimetres was recorded towards the end of last week, with 19 millimetres falling by Friday and a further 31.4 millimetres by Sunday. This rainfall helped boost dam inflows to more satisfactory levels.

However, it is noted that in order to reach last year’s storage levels, reservoirs are still short by approximately 40 million cubic metres of water.

Highest inflows recorded at major dams

The highest inflows over the past three days were recorded at the Kouris dam with 0.524 MCM, followed by Asprokremmos with 0.522 MCM and Arminou with 0.313 MCM.

Despite the recent improvement in Cyprus dam water levels, officials stress that further substantial rainfall is required to overcome drought conditions and secure adequate water reserves.

Outlook for the coming days

Regardless of how conditions develop, it is estimated that stable, though fluctuating, inflows will continue in the near term, as small-scale weather disturbances are expected to affect the region and bring additional rainfall in the coming days.
