Paphos weather alert as EOA deploys four crews

Date:

Crews on standby across the district

The Paphos District Local Government Organisation (EOA Paphos) has been placed on high alert due to extreme weather conditions affecting the district, according to its President Charalambos Pittokopitis.

A total of four EOA crews are on standby to ensure the immediate and effective handling of any issues that may arise.

Coverage in Paphos, Yeroskipou and coastal areas

Mr Pittokopitis said the crews are covering the wider areas of the Municipality of Paphos and Municipality of Yeroskipou, while there is also an operational presence in the municipalities of Akamas and Polis Chrysochous.

“The EOA Paphos crews are on full readiness so that we can respond immediately to any extreme weather or flooding incidents that may occur,” he stressed.

No serious incidents reported so far

The President of EOA Paphos noted that although today’s weather includes rainfall and strong winds, there have so far been no reports of incidents causing concern. He added that the situation is being continuously monitored in close cooperation with the district’s municipalities.

“If anything arises, we are fully prepared to respond immediately,” he said.

Public urged to remain cautious

Asked about potential landslides or other serious phenomena requiring intervention, Mr Pittokopitis said there has been no relevant information reported for the Paphos district to date.

He concluded by urging the public to exercise increased caution, limit travel to essential journeys only, and for drivers to reduce speed and strictly follow police traffic instructions. “General vigilance from everyone is required to avoid unpleasant incidents,” he said.
