Anastasiades on leaked video, addresses parties and President

Date:

Former President Nicos Anastasiades spoke cautiously but pointedly about the leaked video release timing and manner during Sunday Night show. He questioned its disclosure immediately after the Presidency assumption, implying non-random intent behind those publicising it.

Anastasiades noted the material’s editing omits the other side’s questions, distorting full context.

Resignations acknowledge responsibility

He recognised video content inevitably provokes reaction and problems. Yet, he stressed respecting procedures, constitutional presumption of innocence.

Political accountability taken via First Lady’s resignation and Mr. Charalambous’s exit, Anastasiades stated.

Call for restraint

He urged political forces show composure, await probe outcomes, avoid crisis weaponisation leading to counterproductive excess.

Attorney General appointed criminal investigator; video and statements under scrutiny. “Best to show self-restraint,” he emphasised.

Anastasiades confirmed contact with President Christodoulides, expressing regret, offering handling advice to ease tensions. “I stop here.”
