40 Fire Service calls in 24h: Fires and trapped drivers in collision

The Fire Service responded to 40 calls for assistance, 18 fires, 20 special services, and 2 false alarms from 06:00 on 15 January 2026 to 06:00 on 16 January 2026.

Paphos road collision rescue

At 19:05, crews received a call for a road collision with trapped people in Kato Paphos. A vehicle and rescue team from Paphos Fire Service attended.

They freed two individuals from two vehicles, placed them on rescue stretchers, and handed them to Ambulance Service crew. Paramedics transported them to Paphos General Hospital’s Accidents and Emergencies Department for treatment.

Pano Arodes house fire

At 21:21, firefighters tackled a fire in a two-storey stone house in Pano Arodes, Paphos district. Polis Chrysochous Fire Station sent three fire engines.

They controlled the blaze by 22:49. The fire and heat caused extensive damage to the upper floor, its contents, and the wooden roof. Smoke affected the ground floor and its contents. Residents noticed the fire and evacuated to open space before it spread. A faulty fireplace chimney caused the blaze.

Oroklini fire

At 03:43, crews responded to a fire in a wooden pergola with tiled roof at a two-storey house in Oroklini, Larnaca district. Oroklini Fire Station dispatched two fire engines.

They controlled the fire by 04:17. The fire and heat damaged part of the pergola and its contents, plus a nearby parked vehicle. It also affected part of the ground-floor kitchen and an upper-floor storeroom.

Residents spotted the fire early and safely evacuated. Authorities, Police, and the Electrical and Mechanical Services will investigate the cause.
