Norway: Princess Mette-Marit’s son suspected of second rape

Date:

The eldest son of Norway’s Princess Mette-Marit is now suspected of a second rape, the Norwegian police announced today, two days after his arrest.

Marius Borg Høiby, 27, was arrested Monday night on suspicion of rape. Høiby is not biologically a member of the Norwegian royal family, but his mother is married to Crown Prince Haakon, and he grew up alongside his step-siblings, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.

Police attorney Andreas Kruszewski stated today that a second rape allegation emerged during the investigation. He explained during a pretrial detention hearing that this concerns sexual contact without consent with a woman who was incapable of resisting.

The ongoing investigation regards Høiby as a suspect in two rape cases, and the police are seeking his temporary detention, Kruszewski added.

A decision has yet to be made.

Investigators have searched the suspect’s residence and seized evidence.

Høiby was previously arrested on August 4 following an altercation at the home of a woman he was in a relationship with in Oslo. He was accused of causing physical harm to the woman.

Norwegian media reported that police at the time found a knife embedded in the wall of the woman’s bedroom.

Høiby was arrested again in September for breaching a restraining order.

According to police, during his arrest on Monday, he was found in a car with the alleged victim from the August incident.

Høiby and his half-siblings—Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 20, and Prince Sverre Magnus, 18—were all raised together by Mette-Marit and Haakon.

Unlike his siblings, Høiby does not hold an official public role.
