CPA, MPs discuss officer hours; Full backing from DISY

Date:

The issue of Police Chief’s working hours differentiation for officers dominated Monday’s meeting between Cyprus Police Association (CPA) President, Central Committee members, and DISY President Annita Demetriou with MPs Nicos Tornaritis, Nicos Georgiou, Fotini Tsiridou, and Rita Superman.

CPA’s statement notes the encounter unfolded in a highly positive atmosphere, fostering constructive dialogue and views exchange.

DISY confirmed full support for Police members, recognising CPA’s just demand, committing to champion the matter listed for discussion in the House Legal Affairs Committee.

Serious impacts outlined

CPA detailed grave effects of the decision on officers’ labour rights, welfare, and Police smooth operation and effectiveness overall.

Such unilateral decisions downgrade social dialogue and must not proceed without consultation in established bodies, CPA stressed.

DISY President and MPs listened attentively to CPA positions, acknowledging the issue’s gravity and expressing concern over the process followed.

Operational readiness concerns

Police operational capability and public safety cannot strengthen through one-sided decisions lacking dialogue and structured planning, all agreed.

CPA declares unequivocal, non-negotiable support for affected officers, vowing to employ every institutional and legal means to safeguard rights, dignity, and labour gains.

CPA remains vigilant, promising responsible updates on developments.
