Russian Embassy official found dead, probe restricted

Date:

Alarm sounded last Thursday midday when a senior Russian Embassy official was found dead in his office, confirmed by police sources to SigmaLive.

A Cyprus Police team attended but entry into the embassy building was not permitted. The body was handed over in the compound courtyard without internal scene examination.

Limited probe and suicide claim

Police requested a search, which could not proceed. They were informed the death was suicide, with a note reportedly existing but not handed over, destined for Moscow instead.

Cyprus Foreign Ministry has been notified, with Republic security services monitoring closely. Legally required autopsy expected soon to determine exact cause.
