Kronos gas route to Egypt adjusted

Government sources report modification of the clause mandating 20% production channeling from the Kronos gas field toward Egypt. Sources cite briefing received from Egyptian Oil Minister Karim Badawi on this development.

Presidential meeting context

President Nikos Christodoulides met Badawi yesterday at the Presidential Palace. Badawi represented Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi at Cyprus’s EU Council Presidency opening ceremony.

This adjustment facilitates Cypriot natural gas transfer processes to Egypt, according to the sources.

Sources expressed optimism that Block 12 issues resolve soon, enabling Aphrodite field production advancement.

Prior bilateral agreements

February 2025 Cairo saw landmark EEZ Agreement and MoU signing before both Presidents, hailed as milestones for field exploitation and Cyprus-Egypt energy collaboration expansion.

Presidency announced Host Government Agreement for Block 6 hydrocarbons development involving ENI/TOTAL consortium and Egypt, commercializing Kronos, Zeus, and Kalypso discoveries.
