He will go down in history as one of the most recognisable, beloved and “timeless” presenters of Greek television, as his career on screen began in the 1980s and concluded last year, approximately four decades later.

Laiko General Hospital of Athens issued the following statement:

“Today, 04/01/26, the well-known journalist Georgios Papadakis was transferred to the General Hospital of Athens ‘Laiko’ via EKAB, in a state of cardiorespiratory arrest, at 17:42. Specifically, at 17:15, EKAB received a call for the collection of George Papadakis from Kolonaki. A rapid response motorcycle unit arrived at 17:18, while an ambulance arrived at 17:22. The prescribed emergency response protocol was activated immediately, and the hospital’s medical and nursing staff proceeded with prolonged and intensive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) efforts, in accordance with international medical protocols. Despite the extraordinary efforts of all the health professionals involved, it was not possible to restore the patient, and his death was confirmed at 18:26. The Administration and staff of Laiko Hospital express their sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.”
