“Isotita” union seeks tax withholding adjustment

Date:

“Isotita” union’s Board of Directors has formally requested the Accountant General of the Republic, Andreas Antoniades, to adjust payroll and tax withholding calculations based on the new tax reliefs in the 2025 law.

The union calls for these reliefs to have an immediate and substantial impact on public servants’ daily lives through updated monthly tax withholding.

Impact on public servants

Calculating income tax on gross income without considering personal deductions would temporarily deprive families of vital liquidity, the union notes. It argues that taxation should reflect each employee’s true tax capacity from the start, boosting net disposable income monthly.

“Isotita” urges necessary adjustments to payroll software to monthly factor in family status and housing data.

Call for uniform application

The union also suggests the Accountant General issue similar recommendations to public law entities’ accounting departments. This would ensure consistent, fair policy across the broader public sector.
