Underwater Christmas tree lights up Protaras seabed

Date:

A unique festive message is being sent this Christmas from beneath the sea, as an underwater Christmas tree has been placed on the seabed of Protaras.

The initiative was carried out by SCUBA Dive Cyprus, with the support of the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia, aiming to highlight the area’s strong connection to the sea and its coastal cultural heritage.

A festive message from the depths

According to a statement by the municipality, the underwater installation serves as a symbolic reminder that in Protaras, “summer never truly ends- even in December”.

Set beneath the crystal-clear waters of the area, the underwater Christmas tree shines as a festive landmark, blending the holiday spirit with the natural beauty of Cyprus’s coastline.

Promoting marine and cultural heritage

The project was implemented by SCUBA Dive Cyprus, based in the Pernera area, and forms part of broader efforts to promote local marine life and cultural identity.

With the support of the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia, the initiative underscores the region’s long-standing relationship with the sea and its commitment to innovative, experience-driven tourism.

The underwater Christmas tree has already attracted attention online, with many describing it as a creative and heartwarming way to celebrate the festive season while showcasing Protaras as a year-round destination.
