Yellow storm warning issued

EMMA issued a new yellow warning for isolated heavy storms, valid from 11:00 PM tonight until 9:00 AM tomorrow morning.

Isolated heavy storms expected intermittently across the island, initially mainly western and southern coasts, progressively other areas. Hail anticipated during storms, with winds possibly shifting and strengthening.

Local rainfall intensity may exceed 35 millimeters per hour.

Weak low pressure affects the area, with intermittent thin dust in the atmosphere.

Afternoon: partly cloudy becoming cloudier at times, isolated showers, isolated brief storms possible. Higher Troodos peaks may see sleet or snow. Winds mainly northeast to southeast, light to moderate 3-4 Beaufort, occasionally moderate to strong 4-5 Beaufort on coasts. Sea slightly rough, occasionally rough in north.

Tonight: mainly cloudy with local showers and isolated storms, initially southwest, west, north, progressively elsewhere. Hail during storms. Winds northeast to southeast, light to moderate 3-4 Beaufort, occasionally strong 4-5 Beaufort on coasts. Sea generally slightly rough. Temperatures drop to around 9°C inland, 12°C coasts, 4°C higher mountains. Frost possible in sheltered mountain areas at dawn.

Tomorrow’s outlook

Tomorrow: mainly cloudy with local showers and isolated storms, hail possible. Higher Troodos peaks may see sleet or snow. Weather improves noticeably from afternoon. Winds northeast to southeast, light to moderate 3-4 Beaufort. Northern coasts slightly rough, other coasts calm to slightly rough. Temperatures rise to 18°C inland, 19°C coasts, 9°C higher mountains.

Wednesday (Christmas Eve): partly cloudy, isolated showers.

Thursday (Christmas Day): partly cloudy becoming mainly cloudy at times, isolated showers, isolated storm possible mainly after midday.

Friday: mainly cloudy at times with isolated showers or storms, mainly after midday.

Temperatures through Friday remain slightly above seasonal averages, without significant change.
